Peter Atwater is the President of Financial Insyghts and an adjunct professor at William & Mary and the University of Delaware. He studies the impact of changing confidence on consumer decision-making, using his research to advise investors, business leaders, and policymakers. He coined the term the “KShaped Recovery to describe the extreme confidence divide that he saw between those at the top and bottom of the economy, arising from the pandemic.

Researching confidence is a second career for Atwater. Earlier, he helped build and then ran JPMorgan’s Asset-backed Securities business and served in executive roles at First USA, Bank One and Juniper Financial.

Atwater graduated with honors from William & Mary, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
