Alan Davis (The Honorable) Chief Magistrate, Justice of the Peace

The Hon. Alan G. Davis took the bench as the fourth Chief Magistrate of the Delaware Justice of the
Peace Court in July 2005. Before becoming Chief Magistrate, he was an attorney with the Georgetown
firm of Henry Clay Davis III P.A. and served as chief minority counsel for the state House of
Representatives. He teaches Constitutional law and business organizations at Wilmington University
and previously taught criminal law & procedure at Delaware Technical and Community College.

Prior to his tenure on the bench, chaired the Governor’s Advisory Council on Shellfisheries. He clerked
for Judges Lee, Graves, Stokes and Bradley in Superior Court in Sussex County before entering private
practice. Judge Davis worked at the Delaware Department of Transportation in advance of embarking
on his career in the law, coordinating public and media relations and acting as the Department’s
legislative liaison.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and received his J.D. from Delaware Law
School at Widener University in Wilmington.
