Betsy Renzo

Betsy Renzo Community Education Building

Betsy currently serves as the Director of the Wave Learning System for the Community Education Building. Wave serves small groups of students with "near peer" mentors and supports students with social-emotional learning, trauma-informed care, and academic tutoring. Wave also seeks to recruit, hire, and train young employees, with the goal of increasing diversity in the field of education. Prior to Wave, Betsy was a teacher for seven years, both in Delaware and California. It was the joy of her life to teach the future leaders of Delaware about social justice, the power of nonviolence, and the importance of inclusivity and intersectionality. Before teaching, Betsy was an attorney in Pennsylvania, focusing on juvenile criminal justice and family law. It is a life goal of hers to break the school to prison pipeline, and to reform the juvenile criminal justice system to focus on rehabilitation and education, rather than punishment. She holds a JD from Temple University Beasley School of Law, an MA in Education from Stanford University, and a BA in Child Psychology from Skidmore College. Personally, Betsy is married and has two amazing daughters. She also teaches Zumba, coaches field hockey, and loves competitive board games.
