Deborah Kahal, MD, MPH Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, ChristianaCare
Dr. Kahal is an HIV Program physician at Christian Care Health System. She earned her medical degree and master’s in public health from Tulane University in New Orleans, accompanied by honors including the Tulane 34 Award, Achievement Award in Inter-American Friendship and Understanding, and an Infectious Disease Society of America scholarship.
She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Gold Humanism Honor Society and National Scholars Honor Society. She completed her internal medicine residency, global health track, at the University of Washington in Seattle, the recipient of a Global Opportunities Health Fellowship, followed by a year as clinical instructor of medicine at Harborview Medical Center. Dr. Kahal completed her fellowship in infectious diseases at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP).
Dr. Kahal has conducted HIV/AIDS research, co-authored an article published in AIDS and Behavior and presented lectures, teaching sessions and grand rounds at HUP, University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, FACES (Family AIDS Care & Education Services) UW Medical Center Psychiatry Conference in Nairobi, Kenya, and Tulane School of Medicine.
She holds certification in FibroScan, a non-invasive transient elastography method of assessing liver fibrosis, and COPE-REMS for the care and management of chronic pain, and has completed education and training in HIV pathogenesis, antiretrovirals, chronic pain and depression, and other issues related to HIV disease and management. She is a member of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, American College of Physicians, and Infectious Diseases Society of America. Dr. Kahal speaks fluent Spanish.
