Kerriann Otaño OperaDelaware
Kerriann Otaño was a professional opera singer for ten years before the pandemic, working at such prestigious opera houses as the Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center, Wolftrap Opera, and the Glimmerglass Festival. In 2020, she transitioned into arts administration and artist advocacy, consulting on mental health and DEI advancement at regional opera companies across the country. She began as the artistic administrator at Opera NEO during the first summer of the pandemic, before becoming the Marketing and PR Manager at Opera Memphis in Tennessee. She created and produced a bilingual children’s show called “Mijo Milan” which developed into a 30-minute filmed opera available in English and Spanish. The program and accompanying materials became a tentpole of music education in the public school system. In the summer of 2022, Kerriann began in her new position as Vice President of Engagement with OperaDelaware, a position that centers on making opera accessible and approachable to the community. She continues to advocate and lecture about artist empowerment, mental healthcare for singers, and the future of opera.
