Monet Whaley Smith Laurel School District
Monet Whaley Smith is a native Delawarean having graduated from Laurel Senior High School in 2001. Monet earned her B.A. in Political Science from Salisbury University and her M.S.M. from Wilmington University. While earning her undergraduate degree, she completed an internship with the National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action in Fairfax, VA. Monet is currently the Director of Human Resources for a public school district in Sussex County. Monet has also worked for Atlantic Aluminum Products in Greenwood, DE, Harvard Custom Manufacturing in Salisbury, MD, and Williams and Connolly, LLP in Washington, D.C.
Active in her community she serves as a Program Chair for the Delmarva Society for Human Resource Management and is a member of the Laurel Church of the Nazarene. Monet formerly served as Republican Chairperson for the 40<sup>th</sup> Representative District from 2007-2011 and Chairperson for the Sussex County Young Republicans. As the daughter of a local gun shop owner, Monet is an avid supporter of the 2nd Amendment. She is passionate about leadership, raising expectations in education, responsible government, free market solutions to social and political issues, politics, and looks forward to pursuing public office in the future. She hopes to convey the principles she learned from her parents and believes that opportunity and success are the result of hard work and not the result of good fortune. Monet currently resides in Laurel, DE with her husband, Shawn, of Legends Limited Craft Beer Distributing, and their, “pride and joy,” twin sons Parker and Dalton.
