Peter H. Bothum University of Delaware

Since returning to his native Delaware in 2005, Peter Bothum has focused his career on making the First State a better place to live and work. Peter is the Media Relations Manager at his alma mater, the University of Delaware, where he is charged with promoting UD to local and national media. He spotlights groundbreaking research and trumpets the achievements of students; helps to protect the university’s image; and connects well-known experts to reporters while also helping to create new superstar sources through training and guidance. He is also a DJ for WVUD, the University of Delaware’s radio station, where he hosts a weekly show.

Prior to his arrival at UD, Peter served under Gov. Jack Markell and Secretary Alan Levin as the Strategic Communications Manager for the Delaware Economic Development Office. He functioned as a conduit between the executive state agency and the media, business community and Delaware residents, and relished his role on a team that heralded the arrival of new companies and supported the launch of small businesses and the dreams of entrepreneurs. His time at DEDO began with a stint at the Delaware Tourism Office, where he promoted attractions and events throughout the state. Before working for the state, Peter enjoyed a 15-year career as an award-winning reporter and editor for newspapers in Pennsylvania and at The News Journal, where he edited and wrote for the paper’s weekend section, 55 Hours.

In his spare time, he enjoys writing and recording music with his band, which is currently working on its second full-length album. He lives in Newark with his wife and three children.
