A resident of Milton, Valerie Miller is the Development Director for Milford Housing Development Corporation, Delaware’s leading non-profit affordable housing provider. She is currently responsible for developing and implementing the agency’s development strategy as well as achieving fundraising goals and engaging sponsors in ongoing service activities. Prior to moving to southern Delaware, Valerie lived in Newark, Delaware, where she was born and raised. In 2005, she received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware. Valerie continued her education with a Master’s degree in Urban Affairs and Public Policy in 2007. During graduate school, Valerie worked for Kids Count in Delaware, under State Representative Teresa Schooley, as well as working for Nemours Health and Prevention Services as their youth development assistant. Upon graduation, Valerie began work at the Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA), where she oversaw roughly $32 million in state and federal grant funds. Valerie also developed and implemented the national award-winning Photovoice project while at DSHA, entitled “Snapshots of the Often Overlooked: Wilmington’s Homeless Population.” The sixth of ten children, Valerie is no stranger to the meaning of giving care for others. To this day, she continues her work for similar reasons.
