Vinay Maheshwari, MD, MHCDS, received a BA in political science from Virginia Commonwealth University before completing his medical education at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. After hisresidency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Maheshwari completed fellowships in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep medicine at the New England Medical Center at Tufts University Hospital. Prior to joining Christiana Care, Dr. Maheshwari served as the Medical Director, ICU at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, MA. He was a clinical instructor at Harvard University Medical School in Boston was awarded a Teacher of the Year award.

Dr. Maheshwari is board-certified in pulmonary and critical care medicine with a sole clinical focus practice in critical care medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and National Associate of Medical Directors of Respiratory Care (NAMDRC).

Dr. Maheshwari has served in many roles at Christiana Care. Formerly he was the Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy and the Director of Medical Critical Care. Additionally, he was the Associate Chair of Specialty Medicine.

He currently serves as Associate Physician Operations Lead in the Acute Medicine Service Line (AMSL), responsible for a variety of clinical process improvements and directing teams towards optimal care delivery. As the Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine, he is responsible for a broad portfolio of activities including performance and quality review, education, peer review, budgeting, and strategic program development.

Dr. Maheshwari holds the position of Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College/Thomas Jefferson University. He was recently conferred the degree of Masters in Health Care Delivery Science (MHCDS) from Dartmouth College.

Dr. Maheshwari recently joined the Board of DELAWARE Guidance Services. He is also a member of the Citizens Budget Oversight Committee for Delaware Design School.
